HOW IS MY MOUTHGUARD MADE?
A dental impression, a simple procedure that takes about 5 minutes, is required. Each athlete must complete a registration and release form and have it signed by a parent or guardian. The registration form and fee must be submitted at the time of your dental impression. Please contact the Grand Dental Group location nearest you to schedule an appointment.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Normally a custom-fitted mouthguard costs approximately $150 for the procedure and appliance but Grand Dental Group is offering the impression procedure and custom mouthguard for a $25 fee.
HOW LONG WILL MINE LAST?
The lifespan of a custom mouthguard varies. Athletes with a mixed dentition (baby and adult teeth present) and those in orthodontic treatment (i.e., braces) can expect a mouthguard to fit for approximately 4-6 months. Older athletes with permanent teeth can expect much longer wear with simple proper care,
Sports that you should wear a mouthguard for:
Basketball | Rugby | Bicycling | Skateboarding | Boxing | Skiing | Equestrian Events | Skydiving | Extreme Sports | Soccer | Field Hockey | Softball | Football | Squash | Gymnastics | Surfing | Handball | Volleyball | Ice Hockey | Water Polo | Inline Skating | Weightlifting | Acrobatics | Martial Arts | Baseball | Racquetball | Lacrosse
If you participate in any of the activities listed or any other physical activity, the American Dental Association and the International Academy for Sports Dentistry recommend that you wear a well-made, properly-fitted mouthguard. In addition to protecting the teeth, many professionals believe that mouthguards may play a role in decreasing both the incidence and severity of brain concussions. By absorbing some of the impact of an upward blow to the jaw, a mouthguard may reduce the destructive force that can result in a concussion.
